Peermaps

Peermaps is an open-source software project aiming to decentralise geospatial data:

Peermaps is a distributed, offline-friendly alternative to commercial map providers such as google maps. Instead of fetching data from a centralized tile service, your computer fetches map data from other peers across the network.

The project appears to be structured in an IPFS-esque umbrella sort of configuration, achieving separation of concerns for the various goals of the project. As of the time of writing, these stated applications are:

We are technologists and artists with decades of experience. We give talks, facilitate workshops, publish free and open source software, and participate in open collaboration with the greater community. We are always sharing what we know.

I initially came across Peermaps via a GitHub user I follow (@autonome) starring the dataset repo.
